GROUPS CO-ORDINATORS REPORT

Kay Hatter Groups Coordinator         (April Report)

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to the warmer weather that is on its way. We do get the occasional warm day, that is between the gusty winds and heavy rain showers. Well it is April!!

.

THE LONDON WALKING GROUP

Our London Walk on Saturday 11th April had to be cancelled due to engineering works on the line between Barking and Fenchurch Street stations. Not to be deterred from our monthly walk it was decided to do the tried and tested walk from Leigh on Sea to Southend on Sea.

The day dawned dry but with a dubious weather forecast, undaunted our group set off from Grays station. We started our walk at Leigh on Sea with our usual coffee break before setting off on the five mile walk to Southend Pier. The weather stayed dry but blustery all day but not cold. As usual the tide was out and all the many small boats from Leigh onwards were left high and dry. Quite picturesque really. The walk along the front brought back memories for most of us from years past, from our childhoods to teenage years and onwards. The houses and flats along the fronts have certainly gone up-market in the last few years, I suppose you have to if you want to be made a City. Our walk finished with our usual meal this time in “The Last Post” off the High Street adjacent to the station.

Our next walk ”The Haunts of Old East London” will take place on May 16th.
