WINE APPRECIATION

Our Wine Appreciation group is held on the second Tuesday of each month in the Woolmarket, Horndon on the Hill at 7.30p.m. Each month we sample three different wines using the wine society charts as guidance for what we should be judging the wines on. We score them and come up with an eventual winner on the evening.

This month’s selection of wines was as follows:

A wine from Chili – This wine came from an area where 83% of the vineyards are powered by solar panels. It was a white wine with apricot, peach and orange aromas, together with a stone fruit palate.

The second wine was a rose from Maldova, which had aromas of crushed raspberries with delicate red berries on the palate, ending in a refreshing finish.

The third wine was a robust red from Portugal and came from low-hung hand picked grapes grown on the granite banks of a main river. It had the flavour of ripe plums with the hint of spicy black pepper.

We always try to access the wines locally and not to pay more than £8.00p per bottle. Usually there are deals on at the local supermarkets if you look for them. New members are always welcome so if interested contact me or just turn up on the evening.
